ECVHS QUARTERLY NEWSY NEWS!!

WELL it is past that time again!  I apologize for it being a bit late - I JUST KNOW you can't wait to get this right?  With my husband's surgery and setting up a new scanner - well time just got away!  There is one update I was waiting for (you know who you are) and I am sorry not to have included - but it just got so late.  So if that update comes in I will send it out separately!  Just a few things:  PLEASE if you haven't already I am again asking - ie: nagging you to sign up on our website which is elcajonhighschool.com.  It is super easy and Dave has added so many great things to our website - such a labor of love.  AND Chat Night is every Tuesday at 5 pm PST - we have a lot of fun (making no sense but having fun), and would love to see more of you there - just pop in and out as you can.  HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!  We had a great turn-out at Pernies on July 31st - - next one will be in late October, I imagine (Hazel and I will try to figure it out), trying to avoid the holiday busyness.  Thanks to all who have sent something in for this quarterly - - hope more of you will do the same.  SO ON WITH THE NEWS!  (first attachment is of Hazel and grandson Dustin, second is Pam and Ralph's great grandson Colton, my two youngest grandkids - Kyle and Marissa, and another picture of Colton and Pam's mom and the family!)

AND BTW - starting in about a month please send my e-mails to: darlene.duffield@gmail.com.  I will check back at Yahoo but will be using gmail as my primary e-mail.

RICHARD COX:

Hi!

You asked for a photo of my latest great grand kid, here it is. (Ed note - if there is no picture attached it is my fault - I forgot to let Rick know it didn't come through - was hoping he'd send me another one - so Rick - --  let's have one for next quarterly!)    It was done by a professional photographer here in Sandpoint.  He's growing like a weed, probably be driving in a few weeks!!!  HA HA HA HA!!!!!!   I teased my granddaughter Samantha and her husband Josh about Cameron going to need a car soon, and you should have seen the look on their faces.  I don't think the idea of their son having a car ever entered their heads until I brought it up!  They will be surprised at how fast time flies, and how soon he will grow up and be in school.  Sometimes I look at my grand kids, and can't believe they are all twenty one years old, or older.  Boy do I feel old!!!!
Luv To All
Cuzin Rick

ps - Rick's daughter is sending another which I will include with the next newsletter - - sorry for the problem!

JIM EDWARDS

As anyone who has been chatting on the ECVHS web site knows, I am now "working" again (so much for retirement).  Got a job with the Santa Fe Southern Railway, a tourist train that runs some 36 miles between Santa Fe, a small rail town called Lamy and then back to Santa Fe.  I am a conductor/carattendant/bartender/server/docent/historian/janitor/mechanic/gofer/???????  This train is exactly like the "Skunk Train" that runs out of Ft. Bragg, Ca. but runs through the high desert rather than the redwoods.  It is certainly one of the more "fun" jobs that I have ever had but is only part time and isn't going to make me rich.  May wind up having to get another part time job to be a bit more comfortable financially.  We will be heading back to Litibu, Mexico in July to sign the deeds of trust for the two condominiums that we bought there.  Only be a short trip (four days) and then back here and back to work.  Will be putting it up for rent soon after we get back to start an income stream so that there won't be much, if any, cost out of our pocket.  This will be a whole new learning process in advertising and managing this place from afar.  Anybody got any ideas out there?????  Will be taking more pictures to put on my facebook page.  We are entering into the "monsoon" season here and have had a couple of good storms and some rain.  Watching the sky change so quickly is amazing!  Clear skies in the morning to raging thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening....loving that.  It has gotten up to the low 90s during the day, so not too bad so far.  There is a large fire burning to the West of us and  the smoke with the setting sun is quite spectacular.  Firefighters are having a tough time with this one because of the rough terrain, heat and wind.  I am looking forward to our reunion...(just reunion is fine..don't need to push which one it is), and seeing all of you again.  Are we all ready for the changes????  Will we recognize each other?????  Are we excited about it??????   YES TO ALL OF THESE SILLY QUESTIONS!!!!  Oh, BTW, next time you guys meet at Pernicano's, have a slice of pepperoni and a good draugh beer for me.....thanks!
My best withes to you all...Jim Edwards.

Well, after nearly 50 years, 4 "old" friends went to Disneyland together.  Darlene Duffield, Hazel Montague, Nancy Carey, and I went to Disneyland on one of the hottest days of the year.  In spite of the heat and the weary senior citizens, we had a ball.  Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster was a lot more jolting than I remember as a kid.  I won't let Darlene talk me into that one again.  None of us wanted to give in and say let's go home, so we stayed until after 11 pm.  It was fun to be a kid again, even if only for a day. Our highlight of this summer has been that our kids and their families came for an extended visit after a year and half of not being able to come to grandmas and grandpas house.  They live out of state so the visits aren't nearly often enough. Enjoy yours if they live close by.  Congratulations, Darlene, on yours moving back to California.

God Bless you,
Glenda Melton Young
PS (from Darlene) - could not resist sending a picture of Hazel & Glenda on Big Thunder - it's blurry bcz. they were trying to jump out! (LOL). Nancy and I were very sympathetic - we couldn't stop laughing!

 MARIE PIRO LUCAS

Well, I've never written for this before, but I've been working about 80 hrs. a week recently, on 3 jobs.
Almost no time to return phone calls to family & friends.

July 12th, we plan to take off, & Drive up to Canada, to visit old distant family friends of Jack's.  Also,
up to Washington to visit my family, & to see Sandy "Scheeler" Piro & Don my brother.
I just got out yesterday for the 1st time this year to water my flower garden.  No time to fuss in the garden

yet though.  It snowed almost all of May.  My cousin from Ramona was here the 1st week of June.  We
drove out to Kirkwood ski area & it snowed, we were in a white out for a couple of hours.
We just got grass planted in out back yard for the 1st time since we've lived here in Tahoe.  Wow, we finally

have what looks like a real back yard.  The past couple of years, they actually paid people to take out their
grass to conserve water.  But, our back yard is very small.

I am going to a small, rather private women's retreat the end of August.  That should be really swell!

Love,
Marie Lucas
P.S.  I belong to a prophetic dance group in my church, Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship!
Sooo.....
Let them praise Him in the Dance!

    DARLENE REED DUFFIELD
Well the big news for me this past quarter - my son and family have moved back to So. California from Illinois (thank you Unilever for being the best company ever!).  They were only gone 2 years 1 month and 3 1/2 weeks - but was I counting?  Wonder if JetBlue will miss me.  For so many who were praying for their return I thank you so very much - God's answer was yes!  I'm still on cloud 1000!  I get to be an active, participating "nana'" again!  In May we went to Iowa to a grandson's graduation, then to Illinois (which is when we got the good news of the move), then home a few days and on to Albuquerque for our granddaughter's wedding, and then for me, home about a week and up to Sacramento to see my daughter and granddaughter and have some girl time.  She recently got a promotion as a real estate loan underwriter and she is thankfully very, very busy!  Pending news - so those of you who think I'm nuts anyway can be sure of it - - on Sept. 3rd I'm doing a Tandem Skydive just before my 65th!  I can't wait.  My husband had a partial knee replacement on his left  knee- Aug. 3rd - - that is good - partial only -  - bad news - bcz. it is his left knee no golf for THREE months!  (hmmm all you golfers know that won't be fun!).  Surgery went very well PTL!  Hazel and I continue to search for our classmates, and try so hard to account for everyone.  If you know of anyone we may not have found please let us know - and also share your ideas for what you would like to see at our 50th.  THIS IS YOUR REUNION.    You are all so amazing - and I personally thank you for all the years of friendship and joy!  Blessings to all,  Darlene  PS - JUST FYI  The Padres are flying and Charger season is near!  Let the games begin!

HAZEL SEWARD MONTAGUE
Wow! Summer is in full swing and the year is half gone. Christmas will be here next month............or so it seems! LOL
**Still working on our next Reunion (50th) and still determined to find all our unlocated. Following up on some leads, but seem to be getting nowhere! We plan to have our best Reunion yet and hope attendance will be high. 50 years is something to celebrate.
**So..............summer news. Well, I think my biggest news is the fact that my grandson Dustin graduated from Santana High School. It was a tough year for him, but HE DID IT!!!! I am so proud of him. He is now working full time and trying to get settled into the reality of the real world. He has, since graduation, said often......"I wish I were back in High School". This statement from a guy who hated High School!!!!! Reality check?
**The grandkids are all growing up so fast, and my two granddaughters are now taller than I am. I know...........that doesn't take much, but the two younger boys are up to my chin, and it won't be long.
**I am still involved with the Morris project for the family from my church. Construction on the new addition should start by Aug., and this is so exciting. We are still trying to get more funding to do a real makeover and make their home a comfortable place to raise and deal with two boys who demand so much attention. Charlie is doing fine for now and again, I thank all who have continued to pray for him. What a blessing to be involved with helping such a deserving family. It's amazing how so many people are touched by this family and their desire to help and to "pay it forward". God is so good.

**Sorry, but I just have to share this.........because I am so very proud of my daughter, Lori Graham. This was on the front page of her company's newsletter:

The Walters Management Team is proud to announce that three of our managers received their Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM®)designation from CAI®.

Congratulations go out to Lisa Isaacson, Lori Graham and Jean Salvia for obtaining “the highest professional recognition available nationwide to managers who specialize in community association management.” Lisa, Lori and Jean join an elite group of managers – as of March 2010, CAI® reported that there are about 1300 active PCAMs in the Country.

Can I just brag a little??????

I hope everyone enjoys their summer.

Love ya,

Hazel

PAM PROVOST SPEAKE

Well, while Pam didn't write anything she did send a picture of her great-grandson Colton, (attached) but her big news is that SHE IS RETIRED!  We are so happy for her - - and she looks about 20 years younger (not fair!).  BOY she thought she was busy with reunion BEFORE!  Also attached is another picture of Colton and one of her mom with Pam and Ralph's grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Congratulations on your retirement my friend!

JIM WALTERS

For the first time my wife and I traveled to Europe this summer.  We spent two weeks in the Austrian Alps visiting sites around the area.  Anything to beat the Texas summer heat. While there we saw the Oberammergau Passion Play.  If you are anything like me you'd never heard of it.  It's world famous with crowds of 30,000 people a week attending.  In 1633 when the bubonic plague was raging across Europe, the surviving population of this village vowed to perform a Passion Play every 10 years if they were spared.  From that time on not one person died from the sickness and the tradition continued to this day.  They have very strict rules about who can be in the play.  First of all up until a few years ago you had to be born in that town to qualify.  Also, the role of Mary had to be played by an unmarried virgin.  That worked pretty well until the 70's when they couldn't find any good looking unmarried virgins.  Now, you have to at least be a nice person.  Unbelievable sights, soaring mountains, cute little Heidi houses, and beautiful castles.  One of the palaces we visited had only 1 bedroom and 1 bath.  The king didn't like to be around people so he built this incredibly expensive home where no one was invited to visit.   Also saw the Dachau Concentration camp.  Believe me, this isn't something you want to tour after spending the entire night on a plane.  Very moving experience.  I found one person who lost his life there the day I was born.  I highly recommend this to anyone.  For us it was probably a once in a lifetime vacation.

.......And lastly - Dave Salyers, Bev Brannon Berg and Reese Reeves have all had fun moving in the last month.  Dave and Martha are in Prescott, AZ, Bev and Jim still in Wildomar and Reese is still local!

ps - could not resist sending a picture of my Kyle and Marissa - standing in front of the "For Sale/Sold sign in Ilinois!  (a much happier time than when the sign was in front of their home in Irvin 2 1/2 years ago. Sooo...Til' next time -

With love and God's blessings to all

Darlene

Due to their efforts in obtaining this designation, they have joined the other PCAMs at Walters Management. With eleven PCAMs in our company, we support the highest number of PCAMs in one company in the San Diego and Riverside County areas. And, in comparison to any company of a similar or greater size, we enjoy one of the highest percentages of PCAMs per manager in California.
